I remember loving party favors when I was a kid. The surprise factor would make them even more interesting to me. Unfortunately I figured out too soon that the content of those mysterious bags was often boring. 

I understand that today's fast-paced working environment may give moms and dads a hard time trying to find availability in their schedule to worry about party favors. But, believe me, there are some awesome, easy ideas out there that are worth taking a peek. Today's idea is the Toy in a Tin.

Eu lembro bem de como eu adorava lembrancinhas de festa quando crianca. A ansiedade em abrir uma sacolinha sem saber o que ia encontrar era o maximo. Infelizmente, nao tardou para que eu descobrisse que a lembrancinha raramente envolveria alguma surpresa.

Well, disregard the adorable mouse in a box by Maileg if you are not willing to spend $30 at Anthropologie. The concept is the main point here. An affordable and feasible option is to reproduce Larissa Holland's Wee Mouse Tin House: she offers a downloadable digital sewing pattern on Etsy. 

Desconsidere os primeiros e maravilhosos ratinhos caso pagar U$30 por um na  Anthropologie nao esteja no orcamento. O conceito do brinquedo e a moral da historia. Uma opcao barata e possivel seria reproduzir o fofissimo "Wee Mouse Tin House" da Larissa Holland.  Ela disponibiliza um arquivo digital com moldes e passo-a-passo no Etsy.

I've found so many nice variations of this idea! Fingers puppets in a tin is one of them. The idea of upcycling a candy tin to make the toy not only helps the environment, but motivate kids to think green and be creative.

Eu encontrei muitas variacoes deste conceito, como fantoches de dedo em latinhas. A ideia de reutilizar a lata pro brinquedo tambem e excelente, pois alem de ajudar o planeta motiva as criancas a praticar a sustentabilidade e exercer a criatividade.

Upcycling: Bar Cart

   Since I moved to my place, I’ve been searching like crazy for a cart (to use it as a side table, buffet, mini bar or drinking station). It was not an easy task. I could find a couple of them at Crate and Barrel and West Elm, but I was definitely not willing to pay almost a thousand bucks for one. 

   Desde que me mudei, andava procurando por um “carrinho” com prateleiras (pra usar como mesinha lateral, mini bar, estação de bebidas ou buffet). A busca nao foi fácil. Encontrei alguma coisa na Crate and Barrel e na West Elm, mas a ideia de gastar centenas de Dólares em um nao estava no roteiro.

   So I finally found the “Ugly Duckling” above for sale at Goodwill, my favorite thrift store. What a great find! It was a very structured piece whose wheels were working perfectly. It was only lacking a little refurbishment. Some coats of paint later plus other minimal details, and the cart was ready!

   Foi entao que finalmente eu encontrei o “Patinho Feio” acima a venda na Goodwill, minha thrift store preferida. Foi um super achado! Uma peca bem estruturada cujas rodas funcionavam perfeitamente. Apenas precisava de uma leve restauração. Algumas camadas de tinta depois mais alguns mínimos retoques e o carrinho estava pronto!

Unusual Uses: Wooden Mannequin

      

     My wooden mannequin has never been so useful. Since I got it – at Ikea, for around five Dollars – I haven’t had time to sketch. Fortunately, he has been helping me a lot not to loose my stuff!

     O meu manequim de madeira nunca me foi tao útil. Desde que o comprei – na Ikea, por em torno de cinco Dólares – eu nao tenho tido tempo de desenhar. Por sorte, ele tem me ajudado muito a nao perder minhas coisas!

   There is definitely a usage for everything in life. Believe me!

Unusual Uses: Pallet

    

   Anyone who studied logistics has learned about what a pallet is: it is a flat structure that supports goods, making their transportation and storage more efficient. Well, although I studied logistics, I must admit that I’d never given enough attention to pallets until I discovered their (green) decor function!
   
    Quem quer que tenha estudado logística aprendeu o que e um palete: um estrado que suporta bens, otimizando o transporte e estoque destes. Enfim, embora eu tenha estudado sobre isso, tenho que admitir que eu jamais me interessei em paletes ate descobrir o uso deles em decoração!

   Creativity has no limits. A simple set of pallets can be turned into plate holders, cocktail or coffee tables, beds, couches… There are so many possibilities. All the inspirational pictures above and below are from Pinterest. Enjoy!
